The Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade welcomes you to the home of our 2014 National Champion Road Crash Rescue Team.
Road rescue has become a major part of a Firefighters job description which accounts for approximately one third of all calls around New Zealand.
There has been significant work done over the years to make vehicles stronger and safer which now poses problems for rescuers given the complexity of the construction ( Air Bags, Alternative Fuels and Integrated Metal Technology.)
After a serious motor vehicle crash that took the life of a passenger, it was decided that specialised rescue equipment was required within the region.
The South Wairarapa community rallied together and came up with the funds required to purchase the desired rescue equipment.
In 1980 with the assistance from the Greytown Lions, the Brigade purchased several sets of air bags, a set of hydraulic cutters and spreaders, scoop stretcher and winch. This equipment has been replaced over the years with the latest gear. 25 years on, the Greytown Fire Brigade has a strong compliment of members and is also the dedicated rescue tender within the South Wairarapa Region.
The Greytown Fire Brigade has embraced the need for dedicated and well trained Firefighters. In 1995 the Brigade established a competition team to compete in
local, national and international challenges around the Australasian and World Circuit which not only benefits the Brigade but most importantly the
community.
